Service Description by seekda Users

The Daenet CurrencyServer Web Service is a collection of methods that you can use from within your own applications to access the data served up by the daenet CurrencyServer. see: http://www.currencyserver.de/portal/Free_English.Html. In the following I want a common usage scenario (status 2008/02/19). To use the CurrencyServerWebService you need to know the id of a provider that offers exchange rate information as well as the codes of the currency. Note that this service does not convert a given money amount given in one currency in the amount that represent in another one. It only delivers pure exchange rates. To get the available providers you have to invoke the method getProviderList. No input data is required, you receive a list like "4, 5, AVERAGE, 1, 3" - this is the ids of available currency information providers. If you want you can fetch further information about the provider by calling the method getProviderDescription with one of the just gathered provider ids as input: currently only for the provider AVERAGE a result is delivered: " This provider is automattically calculated each time when currency data are updated. It publishes the average dollar value." When working with the exchange rate data it is often important to know how update to date they are. The method getProviderTimestamp delivers the point of time when the currency exchange rate data has been updated last time. The values produced by the getProviderList method only works with providerId parameter. Currently the providers 1, 3, 4, AVERAGE seem to use real time data while the provider having id 5 delivers a time in the morning hours. There are several alternatives how to get the exchange rates. With the method e.g. getCurrencyValue the result 1.4738393515106854 for the inputs provider=1, srcCurrency=EUR and dstCurrency=USD was delivered at 2008/02/19, 13:10 GMT. If you only interested in exchange rates to US Dollar the method getDollarValue is just for you.
